North Cronulla Beach is a 3.5 km long stretch of beach in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It has been a popular surfing spot for decades, and it is regarded as one of the best beaches in Cronulla. The beach contains a large rock pool known to locals as ‘The Rockpool.’

North Cronulla Beach is located in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire at the mouth of O’Hares Creek. The topography consists mainly of rocks up to about 30 metres above sea level, but some small dunes near the southern end where Dunningham Park extends inland from the actual beach. In recent years many people have come to reside behind these dunes because they offer a good beach view.

North Cronulla Beach is famous for its giant rock pool, extending in a semicircle along two-thirds of the beach line. The rocks are covered at high tide but revealed at low tide, creating an excellent swimming area when they dry out.

There are often warning signs on the beach advising bathers that dangerous rips are present in times of rough surf. Despite this, there have been several incidents where people have drowned after being swept away by powerful currents while swimming in this area during rough seas. On average, about two people drown each year off North Cronulla Beach.

North Cronulla Beach is renowned for its surfing conditions due to an artificial reef constructed in 1985. It has attracted professionals and beginners alike with varying degrees of success when challenging the various breaks around the area.

North Cronulla Beach is often used for various water sports, such as bodyboarding and surfing. Other activities include sandcastle building and sunbathing. 

North Cronulla Beach is one of the major local attractions in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire. It has been ranked 3rd within Sydney’s ten top-quality beaches (2010) by “The Sydney Morning Herald.” It was named the best beach by both The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph in 2008.
