Signs You Have a Blocked Drain in Maroubra
Some of the most common signs that you have a blocked drain include:
One of the most common signs of a clogged sewer drain is when water takes longer to go down the drain than usual. If you notice this happening, there is likely a blockage somewhere in your drains.
When there is a blockage, bad odours can come from your drains. This is because the water is not flowing as it should, and the smells are trapped.
With a floor drain, if you see water pooling around it, this is a sign that there is a blockage. The water is not able to flow down the drain as it should.
Due to a blockage, your toilet water may start to rise and fall. This is because the water is not flowing as it should and is starting to back up.
If there is a blockage in your stormwater drains, then during a heavy rainstorm, you might notice that the water is overflowing. This can cause flooding in your home or yard, and it’s a sure sign that you have a blocked stormwater drain.
If you hear your drains gurgling, this is another sign of a blockage. This happens because the air can’t escape as it should and is being forced out through the drain.

What Could Be Causing Your Drains to Block?
Some of the most common things that can cause your drains to block are:
One of the most common causes of blocked drains is foreign objects. These can include anything from kid’s toys to pieces of jewellery. If you think there may be a foreign object causing your drain to block, the best thing to do is call a professional blocked drain plumber. They will have the tools and experience needed to remove the object and unblock your drain safely.
With the increase in the popularity of wet wipes, this has become one of the main causes of blocked drains. Even if the packet says they are flushable, it doesn’t mean they won’t cause a blockage. The best thing to do is to bin them instead.
Toilet paper is designed to break down quickly in water. However, it’s important to choose toilet paper specifically designed for septic tanks if you have a septic tank. This type of toilet paper will break down more slowly, which will help to prevent clogs.
With long hair, some will inevitably end up going down the drain. Over time, this hair can build up and cause a blockage. To help prevent this, invest in a drain cover or screen. This will catch any stray hairs before they can go down the drain.
If you have tree roots growing near your drains, they can sometimes invade the pipes and cause a blockage.
Food scraps should never be put down the drain. They can cause a build-up of grease, which can then lead to a blockage. Also, if you have a garbage disposal, it should never be used as a substitute for a trash can.
If you pour grease down your drain it can solidify and cause a blockage. This is because grease doesn’t break down in the water like other liquids. Also, when hot water mixes with grease, it can cause the grease to rise and form a layer on top of the water. This layer can then solidify and cause a blockage.
For obvious reasons, broken pipes can cause a clogged drain. It is important to get a broken pipe fixed as soon as possible.
You must immediately call a blocked drain plumber if you notice any of these signs. They will be able to diagnose the problem and come up with a solution.
Steps to Prevent a Blocked Drain in Maroubra
You can do a few simple things to help prevent blocked drains in your home. By taking some preventative measures, you can avoid the headache and hassle of a clogged drain.
Use A Drain Strainer
A drain strainer is a simple and effective way to catch hair, food, and other materials that can cause a blockage. It fits snugly over the drain and allows water to pass through while trapping debris.
Do Not Dispose Of The Cooking Grease Down the Kitchen Sink
Cooking grease is one of the most common causes of drain blockage problems. When it cools, it can solidify and cling to the sides of the pipes, eventually causing a blockage. It is best to dispose of cooking grease in the bin.
Pour Boiling Water Down the Kitchen Drains
Pouring boiling water down your kitchen drains regularly can help to prevent clogs in the drainage system by melting grease and breaking up debris. Just be sure not to pour boiling water down cracked or broken drains.
Never Flush Non-Toilet Paper Products Down the Toilet
Flushing anything other than toilet paper down the toilet is a surefire way to clog your drainage system. Avoid flushing feminine hygiene products, wet wipes, paper towels, and other materials down the toilet.
Schedule Regular Drain Maintenance With A Professional Plumber
To help keep your drains flowing freely, it is important to have them cleaned and inspected regularly. A professional plumber can identify any potential issues and resolve them before they cause a blockage. Contact MPJ Plumbing today to schedule drain maintenance for your home or business.

Maroubra Helpful Information
“Maroubra is located in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Maroubra is 9 kilometres southeast of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Randwick. Maroubra has a population of 17,183 people.
The suburb was named by early European settlers after a group of Aborigines from the Awabakal nation who lived in the area and called themselves Maroubra people. The first land grant in the area was made to Captain Francis Grose in 1793. In 1809, Governor Lachlan Macquarie granted land to John McVicar and his wife Elizabeth, which included present-day Maroubra Beach.
The first school in the area, Maroubra Public School, opened in 1882. A railway line was built through Maroubra in 1895, but it was not until 1904 that a station was opened. The suburb grew rapidly during the 1920s and 1930s as Sydney’s population expanded.
Maroubra gained notoriety as a rough and dangerous area in the 1970s and 1980s. However, over the past two decades it has gentrified and is now a popular location for young families. Maroubra is home to some of Sydney’s best beaches, including Maroubra Beach and Malabar Beach. It is also close to other popular attractions such as Prince Edward Park and Botany Bay National Park.”
